why use an infrared sauna?

Many people often inquire about the reason behind the uplifting sensation experienced after a sauna session. Both clinical studies and personal accounts suggest that saunas contribute to relaxation, mood enhancement, and an overall sense of well-being. The warmth from infrared saunas stimulates our body to produce various hormones and neurotransmitters, responsible for the enjoyable and calming effects of a sauna. This includes improvements in mood, focus, and attention. Additionally, regular sauna use can help in regulating cortisol, the stress hormone.

The Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease (KIHD) Study, which tracked over 2,300 middle-aged Finnish men for over two decades, revealed a significant correlation between frequent sauna use (four to seven times weekly) and a reduced risk of sudden cardiac death, fatal coronary heart disease, and fatal cardiovascular diseases. These findings were compared to men who used saunas less often. The study also noted that increased sauna usage was linked to a 40% reduction in overall mortality. Furthermore, deliberate heat exposure through regular sauna sessions can boost metabolism, the rate at which our body burns energy for vital functions and activities. A Finnish study observed a 25-33% increase in metabolic rate during sauna sessions, with the effect persisting for several hours afterward.

why use a cold plunge ice bath?

Immersing in cold water causes blood vessels to contract, which reduces blood flow to muscle areas with tissue trauma. This process decreases swelling and inflammation, potentially alleviating pain and discomfort. Research indicates that ice baths may be more effective in reducing post-exercise inflammation than alternatives like compression socks, making them popular in sports training facilities, gyms, and recovery centers.

Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is the pain experienced in muscles after intense workouts. It can be quite painful, limiting movement and affecting training schedules. Cold water immersion therapy is beneficial in mitigating DOMS symptoms, particularly after endurance and cardio exercises. It aids in quicker recovery, allowing for a return to training activities sooner.

The advantages of cold exposure extend beyond the bath. Exiting an ice bath triggers blood vessels to expand, enhancing blood flow to muscles and throughout the body. This improved circulation is crucial for eliminating lactic acid and other metabolic wastes accumulated in muscles and connective tissues during physical activity.

3 STEP PROCESS

Step 1: Consultation and Assessment

Your wellness journey commences with an in-depth consultation and assessment with one of our qualified practitioners. This discussion explores your current health conditions and any potential issues. This sets the stage for personalised recommendations, including an evaluation to determine the most effective use of the recovery room.

Step 2: Customised Session Setup

Following the assessment, the second step involves the booking and preparing for your session. Informed by the earlier evaluation, the practitioner tailors key variables such as intensity, frequency, and duration to precisely align with your therapeutic needs. Then get those heat-shock and cold-shock proteins firing with the modern version of the traditional Nordic fire and ice cycle.

Step 3: Post-Session Bliss

The step involves drinking water (rehydration is very important), having a shower, lightly stretching and enjoying the post-session benefits! You are encouraged to follow the guidance of healthcare professionals or practitioners for a safe and effective recovery that is unique to your health profile. Be sure to book another session in future too.

FAQS

What is Hormesis?

Hormesis refers to the phenomenon where a specific level of stress can actually have positive effects on our cells and overall health. In essence, not all stress is harmful; some forms can be beneficial. By deliberately exposing ourselves to these beneficial stressors, we can stimulate our body’s protective mechanisms. This controlled exposure leads to a variety of adaptive responses, ultimately contributing to improved strength, health, and well-being.

What is Hormetic Technology?

Hormetic technology leverages the body’s natural resilience and adaptability to enhance health and well-being through controlled exposure to stressors. One prime example is the sauna, a traditional practice embraced worldwide for its numerous health benefits. Sauna use raises body temperature, triggering various positive responses like activation of heat shock proteins, improved cardiovascular fitness, enhanced skin suppleness, increased heart rate for better heart health, and improved blood circulation. Regular sauna sessions have also been shown to positively impact inflammatory markers and brain function. Similarly, ice baths or cold plunges offer benefits including enhanced cognitive abilities, the formation of new brain synapses, activation of cold shock proteins, and improved mitochondrial health. When used together, saunas and cold plunges are considered, based on both personal opinion and scientific evidence, to be among the most powerful health tools available, influencing a wide range of health outcomes.

Is Hormetic Technology safe?

Hormetic technology, which includes practices like saunas and ice baths, is generally safe and can be beneficial due to the body’s inherent resilience and adaptability. These technologies work by exposing the body to controlled stressors, activating beneficial physiological responses that enhance health and resilience. Saunas, for instance, have been used for thousands of years, increasing body temperature to trigger positive effects like activation of heat shock proteins, improved cardiovascular fitness, and better skin health. Similarly, ice baths or cold plunges have shown to improve cognitive abilities and mitochondrial health. When used appropriately, these practices are safe and contribute significantly to a wide spectrum of health outcomes, making them powerful tools for well-being. However, as with any health practice, individual conditions and limitations should be considered, and professional advice sought if necessary.

How often should I use Infrared Saunas & Ice Baths?

For infrared saunas, many users find optimal benefits with three or more sessions per week. Each session should ideally last between 30 to 45 minutes, at a temperature of 45°C to 55°C. Daily use is safe and can be particularly effective for specific goals like weight loss. However, personal goals and needs should guide the frequency and duration of sauna sessions. Regarding ice baths, there’s no universal recommendation for duration and frequency, as responses to cold exposure vary greatly among individuals. Regular use of ice baths can activate brown fat in the body, but effectiveness depends on various factors. For weight loss or other specific goals, it’s advised to monitor personal progress and adjust usage accordingly. Consulting with our team for personalized advice and speaking with health professionals, especially if there are existing health conditions, is always recommended.

What time of day is the best for Infrared Saunas & Ice Baths?

The best time of day for using infrared saunas and ice baths depends on your personal health goals, daily schedule, and how your body responds. A morning session can be ideal for increasing flexibility, serving as a warm-up before a workout, and may lead to benefits like reduced work-related errors, a more consistent pulse rate, and improved mental focus. On the other hand, an evening session can aid in relaxing muscles after a workout, facilitate stress relief, assist in detoxifying lactic acid, and potentially enhance weight loss (when combined with diet and exercise), while also promoting restful sleep. Ultimately, the choice between morning or evening sessions should align with your specific objectives and lifestyle.

What to do before and during a session?

Before a sauna session, it’s important to stay hydrated by drinking water. Prepare by placing a towel on the bench and floor of the sauna, and consider having a hot shower or bath to encourage more perspiration. Set up your favorite music or podcast, but it’s recommended to go phone-free during the session. Get excited about the benefits you’re about to experience towards your health and well-being goals. During the session, simply sit back, relax, and let your mind wander.
